In 2020, total consumption of fossil fuels in the United States, including petroleum, natural gas, and coal, fell to 72.9 2020 marked the largest annual decrease in US fossil fuel consumption in both absolute and percentage terms since at least 1949, the earliest year in the EIA annual data series.

Using current technologies, all evaluated biofuel, battery electric, and hydrogen fuel cell vehicle pathways offer significant C2G GHG emissions reduction compared to the current gasoline internal combustion engine vehicle. When fueled by hydrogen produced from landfill gas, the total dropped to 117 g CO 2 e/mi.

Solaris has signed a contract for the supply of 50 zero-emission and low emission buses to bus operator Vy Buss AB: eight electric buses and 42 natural-gas-fueled units. The Solaris 12 electric will be fitted with 200 kWh Solaris High Energy batteries. The buses running on compressed natural gas meet the Euro 6 norm.
