Synhelion was founded in 2016 at ETH Zurich and is working on bringing solar fuels to the market. Synhelion uses solar heat to convert water and CO 2 into synthetic fuels. Climeworks machines consist of modular CO 2 collectors that can be stacked to build machines of any size.

Emissions from buildings, industry and other parts of the economy rose, though less than in 2018. All told, net US GHG emissions ended 2019 slightly higher than at the end of 2016. Renewables played an important role as well thanks in part to continued cost declines in both wind and solar generation. Coal-driven decline.

Nissan set the target in its mid-term environmental action plan, the Nissan Green Program 2016 (NGP2016). Energy procurement is being shifted toward more sustainable sources, like biomass and solar power.

Their new solar mini-refinery is located on the roof of ETH’s Machine Laboratory building in Zurich. Both are then fed into the solar reactor at the focus of a parabolic reflector. Solar radiation is concentrated by a factor of 3,000, generating process heat at a temperature of 1,500 degrees Celsius inside the solar reactor.

Volkswagen inaugurated its largest solar facility in the world—also the largest solar facility operated by an automaker in the US—at its plant in Chattanooga, TN, which produces the Passat model for North America.
