Australian express freight company, Team Global Express, has placed an order for 36 Volvo FL Electric trucks. This is Volvo’s largest electric truck order to date in Australia. The trucks will hit the streets of Sydney during the first quarter of 2023. The Volvo FL Electric model will be equipped with four 66 kWh battery packs for increased range and improved charging performance.

EV battery costs have soared in 2022 due to rising raw material and battery component prices, according to a Bloomberg New Energy Finance (BNEF) report. The volume-weighted average for lithium-ion battery pack prices reached $151/kwh this year, a 7% increase over 2021, according to the report. It marks the first time average pack prices have.

Volkswagen will make an initial investment of some €460 million in its Wolfsburg factory at the Group headquarters by the beginning of 2025. This investment is primarily earmarked for preparations to produce the new ID.3. The compact electric car will be leaving the assembly line in Wolfsburg from 2023—initially in partial production, with full production slated from 2024.

GM marked the official launch of its Dealer Community Charging Program with the installation of the first community charging stations in Wisconsin and Michigan. Since the program was announced in late 2021, nearly 1,000 GM dealers have enrolled—representing almost a quarter of all GM dealers in North America. The program initially opened to Chevrolet dealers earlier this year and will expand to Buick, GMC and Cadillac dealers in January 2023.

Tesla scored a high brand intimacy rating in the MBLM 2022 report. MBLM researched 600 of the world’s leading brands, and Tesla placed second, right behind Disney. Tesla scored a 67.4 brand intimacy rating, closing following Disney’s score of 68.1. The Elon Musk-led EV maker was the highest-ranking automotive brand in MBLM’s 2022 report.

In BMW vehicles with BMW Operating System 7 and 8, a new service for convenient payment processing of parking fees is now available in Germany and Austria. Other European countries will follow. With the parking payments function, upon arrival in a parking zone, the vehicle automatically detects whether the service is available and displays the payment function if the parking zone is recorded by one of the connected providers.

IonQ announced the next stages of its partnership with Hyundai Motor Company to develop the vehicles of the future. Hyundai Motor Company and IonQ will work to develop on IonQ’s quantum computers machine vision algorithms capable of conducting object detection on three dimensional data from autonomous vehicles. The Faraday Institution launched the Battery Parameter eXchange (BPX) , an open standard for physics-based lithium-ion battery models. The standard defines the battery parameters, the equations that use the parameters, and the reporting of experimental measurements used to validate the reported parameters. The BPX standard additionally supports inclusion of experimental data used to justify the reported parameter values.

One of Australia’s cheapest EVs is now more expensive. The BYD Atto 3 has had a price rise that makes it about 8 percent more expensive than the prices it launched at earlier this year. Both the Atto 3 Standard Range and Atto 3 Extended range are now $3630 more expensive than they were yesterday. That amounts to an 8.1 per cent increase on the Standard battery and a 7.7 per cent on the Extended.
