Archer Aviation and United Airlines plan to launch the first air taxi route in Chicago, between O’Hare International Airport (ORD) and Vertiport Chicago. Once the trunk routes have been established, the next step will be to build out “branch” routes to connect to surrounding communities.

At CES 2019, ZF will unveil a steering-wheel- and pedal-free robo-taxi to show how its technologies enable new forms of urban mobility. Users can hail the taxi using their smartphone or tablet; the robo-taxi will maneuver autonomously to pick them up. It can then chauffeur them to where they wish to go. ZF ProAI RoboThink.

The city of Boston this week became the first municipality in America to approve the Ford Transit Connect for taxi use, paving the way for taxi owners to purchase the new vehicle for their fleets. To be approved for taxi use, a vehicle must meet basic size requirements for headroom, legroom and cargo space.

But thanks to a new artificial-intelligence-powered tool called ConnectionSaver, the jet was able to wait for them — their checked bags, too — and still arrive in London on time.

Over a three-year period, a small fleet of fully electric Volvo XC40 Recharge cars will be used as taxis by Cabonline, the largest taxi operator in the Nordic region, and charged wirelessly at stations in Gothenburg, Sweden. The charging station sends energy through the charging pad, which is picked up by a receiver unit in the car.

Taxi Medallion Management in Chicago has purchased 12 Ford Transit Connect Taxis running on compressed natural gas (CNG) for its fleet. The purchase is part of the company’s goal of reducing emissions by 25%, said Michael Levine, CEO of Taxi Medallion Management. The taxis have a 39-foot turning radius.
