DG Fuels (DGF), a provider of cellulosic drop-in sustainable aviation fuel (SAF), signed a multi-year SAF offtake agreement with Air France KLM for up to 60,408 metric tons (21 million gallons) per year from DGF’s initial plant to be located in Louisiana. —Christopher J. In a historic agreement, the G7 just agreed to phase out coal in the first half of the 2030s, according to statements made today. The G7 – Canada, France, Germany, Italy, Japan, the UK, and the US, plus the EU – are meeting in Turin, Italy. The problem is that whilst coal power has already been falling, gas power has not.

The European Commission has approved , under EU State aid rules, a €850-million French measure to support ArcelorMittal France in partially decarbonizing its steel production processes. The aid will support the construction of a direct reduction plant (DRP) and two electric arc furnaces (EAF).

The strategy is centred around two main technology routes, as introduced in the first ArcelorMittal Europe climate action report published earlier this year: The use of hydrogen in DRI-EAF (Direct Reduced Iron - Electric Arc Furnace) and, also, the blast furnace. The expansion of its Smart Carbon route, also utilizing hydrogen.
