Cummins unveils 15L hydrogen engine

Green Car Congress

At the recent ACT Expo in Long Beach, California, Cummins debuted its 15-liter hydrogen engine. This engine is built on Cummins’ new fuel-agnostic platform, where below the head gasket each fuel type’s engine has largely similar components, and above the head gasket, each has different components for different fuel types.

HyMethShip seeks to fuel ship engines with hydrogen from methanol

Green Car Congress

The EU-funded HyMethShip project developed a system that innovatively combined a membrane reactor, a CO 2 capture system, a storage system for CO 2 and methanol as well as a hydrogen-fueled combustion engine to power ships. The bottom part shows how hydrogen for the engine is obtained from methanol in the reactor (blue arrow).

GlobalData: China advancing hydrogen engines to meet sustainability goals

Green Car Congress

As much as skeptics insist that the internal combustion engine (ICE) is dead and hydrogen is a non-starter, it appears that significant research and development is being conducted into the technology across geographies. These engines offer zero vehicular emissions, quick charging, and better ranges. Weichai Power.

Berkeley researchers propose salted biomass as scalable, economical and stable carbon capture and storage solution

Green Car Congress

Researchers from the University of California, Berkeley, are proposing burying salted biomass in a dry environment within an engineered biolandfill as a solution to sequester carbon that has been photosynthetically fixed by cultivated plants. A simplified version of the bio-landfill technology. In 1 y, PNAS.

Novel adaptation for existing blast furnaces could reduce steelmaking emissions by 88%; closed-loop carbon recycling

Green Car Congress

This reduction is achieved through a closed-loop carbon recycling system, which could replace 90% of the coke typically used in current blast furnace-basic oxygen furnace systems and produces oxygen as a byproduct. The perovskite can be regenerated to its original form in a chemical reaction that takes place in a low oxygen environment.
