Virginia Governor Bob McDonnell has signed two pieces of legislation that promote the use of natural gas, electric or other alternative-fueled vehicles in the Commonwealth. He also signed a new executive order setting out the state alternative fuel plan required by House Bill 2282.

Unitrans, the University of California, Davis transit system, has purchased six Xcelsior CHARGE battery-electric, forty-foot heavy-duty transit buses from NFI subsidiary New Flyer of America Inc. NFI’s New Flyer was selected by DGS as an approved supplier of electric vehicles in 2019.

The state of Texas is now offering rebates on select electric vehicle (EV) purchases including some Tesla models, as made available through a limited-time grant program. The funding is set to replace revenue lost from EV owners not paying road maintenance taxes normally charged at the gas pump.

Results of a survey released by Maritz Research demonstrates that while US consumer awareness about alternative fuel vehicles continues to grow, only about one in five consumers state they are “very familiar” with any alternative-fuel technologies. Gasoline-electric hybrid vehicles rose from 15 to 22%.
