USDA study finds GHG from corn-based ethanol ~39% to 43% lower than from gasoline; reduction of >70% possible by 2022

A new study released by the US Department of Agriculture (USDA) finds greenhouse gas emissions from corn-based ethanol are about 39% lower than gasoline. EIA: US gasoline’s average energy content per gallon declined ~3% from 1993-2013 due to increasing ethanol fraction

The US Energy Information Administration (EIA) has adjusted its estimates of the energy content of retail motor gasoline in its Monthly Energy Review (MER) to reflect its changing composition. As a result, EIA’s estimate of motor gasoline’s average energy content per gallon has declined by about 3% over this 20-year period.

Study explores impact of changing gasoline and diesel taxes in Europe

Diesel is currently taxed at a lower level than gasoline in Europe; however, since 2011 the EC has been considering reversing that situation by making energy taxes systematically reflect the CO 2 performance of the energy product. KiOR produced 172K gallons of cellulosic gasoline and diesel in July and August; 357,532 gallons so far this year

Cellulosic gasoline and diesel company KiOR reported that in July and August, its Columbus, Mississippi facility produced 172,398 gallons of fuel, bringing the 2013 production total from the facility to 357,532 gallons through 31 August. The final 2013 overall volumes and standards require 16.55 RFS targets.

Audi using supplementary port fuel injection to address particulates from gasoline direct injection
