DOE: US plug-in vehicles consumed nearly 3 TWh of electricity in 2018

The amount of electricity consumed by plug-in electric vehicles (PEV) in the United States has nearly doubled in the last two years—from 1.44 terawatt-hours in 2018, according to the US Department of Energy (DOE). In 2018, EV accounted for 61% of all PEV electricity consumption while PHEV accounted for the remaining 39%.

75% of plug-in vehicles sold in the US in 2018 were made in the US

Electricity conversion to Btu using 3,412 Btu/kWh.

Volkswagen’s new Touareg to offer two PHEV variants

Volkswagen’s updated Touareg SUV will launch in five powertrain versions: a turbocharged gasoline engine, two turbodiesel engines and two plug-in hybrids.
