However, passage of the Murkowski Amendment would have profoundly adverse effects on the national economy, national environment and energy security objectives, and the economically distressed automobile manufacturing industry.

Environment Canada released draft regulations to limit greenhouse gas emissions from new vehicles beginning with the 2011 model year. This would represent an approximate 20% reduction compared to the new vehicle fleet that was sold in Canada in 2007. Transportation accounts for about one quarter (27%) of Canada’s total GHG emissions.
