From 2022 onwards, the company will purchase electricity in Germany which comes exclusively from renewable sources. The CO 2 -free electricity from solar, wind and hydro sources is generated in various power plants, most of which are located in Germany. A green power concept of this type and scale is so far unique in Germany.

Kandjoze of Namibia’s National Planning Commission agreed to establish a hydrogen partnership between Germany and Namibia and signed a Joint Communiqué of Intent (JCoI). The global race for the best hydrogen technologies and the best sites for hydrogen production is already on. This is almost twice as much as Germany has to offer.

Energy company RWE and steel producer ArcelorMittal have signed a memorandum of understanding to work together to develop, build and operate offshore wind farms and hydrogen facilities that will supply the renewable energy and green hydrogen required to produce low-emissions steel in Germany.

Mercedes-Benz Cars has entered into a power purchase agreement with Statkraft, Europe’s largest producer of renewable energy, enabling Mercedes-Benz Cars to source electricity directly from wind farms in Germany, whose subsidies from the Renewable Energy Act (EEG) expire after 2020.

Mexico-based global construction materials company CEMEX is partnering with integrated chemicals and energy company Sasol ecoFT and renewable energy company ENERTRAG to combine CO 2 with hydrogen to produce sustainable aviation fuel. The consortium will source green hydrogen generated exclusively from wind and solar energy from ENERTRAG.
