Allison Transmission’s eGen Flex, its next generation electric hybrid propulsion solution ( earlier post ), will be put into revenue service at New York City Transit (NYCT) in May. Moving these accessories to electric power reduces the strain on the engine, reducing fuel consumption and maintenance costs over the vehicle’s lifetime.

A joint study by Controlled Power Technologies (CPT) and Austria’s Technische Universität Wien (TU Wien) into 48V diesel mild hybrid technology verified a 9% reduction of NO x in raw engine-out emissions, while retaining the fuel economy and CO 2 benefits of diesel engine technology. —Paul Bloore.

Volvo has extended its S60 range—the third generation of the premium mid-size sedan—to incorporate further powertrain choices and equipment grades, including an allwheeldrive gasoline-electric hybrid and a trim level that focuses on luxury and craftsmanship. Fuel economy (on the WLTP combined cycle) is up to 147 mpg US.

The Maryland Transit Administration is now in line to receive $97,845,148 to invest in 172 40-foot advanced clean diesel buses after receiving approval from the Maryland’s Board of Public Works. The Maryland Transit Administration contracted a price of $556,774 per bus New Flyer Industries, plus additional costs for services such as training.
