Empa and partners exploring DME as fuel with new heavy-duty test engine

Empa, together with FPT Motorenforschung AG Arbon, Politechnico di Milano, lubricant manufacturer Motorex and other partners, is exporing the use of DME as a fuel for heavy-duty engines. An electrically driven compressor for precise exhaust gas recirculation is also used. This is done via exhaust gas recirculation (EGR).

EPFL team develops on-board system to capture CO2 from trucks; reducing emissions by 90%

The EPFL system captures CO 2 directly in the trucks’ exhaust system and liquefies it in a box on the vehicle’s roof. The liquid CO 2 would then be delivered to a service station and where it will be turned back into fuel using renewable energy. In their study, the scientists used the example of a delivery truck.
