EPA proposes new GHG rules for light-duty vehicles; updating emission standards for heavy-duty trucks

The US Environmental Protection Agency (EPA) released a proposed rulemaking for model year 2023-2026 light-duty vehicle greenhouse gas emissions standards, and outlined its plans to initiate a subsequent rulemaking to set standards for MY 2027 and beyond, to speed the transition of the light-duty vehicle fleet toward a zero emissions future.

EPA’s annual automotive trends report shows slight increase in fuel economy from MY2017 to MY2018

The report found that over the last five years, 11 of the 14 largest manufacturers improved both estimated real-world CO 2 emissions and fuel economy of their new vehicle fleets. NHTSA issues Environmental Impact Statement scoping notice for MY 2022-2025 CAFE standards; seeking comments on “preferred alternative”
