The German Federal Ministry of Education and Research (BMBF) has launched the Battery Cell Research Production Center, a new R&D and large-scale industrial manufacturing plant for lithium-ion cells; the center will receive an investment of €500 million. Hexcel Corporation will invest $250 million in the construction of a carbon fiber plant in Roussilon, France. The new carbon fiber facility will occupy a 37-acre site at the Osiris Chemicals Industry Platform in Roussillon and will incorporate both polymerization and carbonization lines.
