DOE releases five-year strategic plan, 2014-2018; supporting “all of the above” energy strategy

The US Department of Energy (DOE) released its five-year 2014-2018 Strategic Plan. The President’s Climate Action Plan contains a goal of doubling renewable energy generation from wind, solar, and geothermal sources between 2012 and 2020.

California ARB Adopts Regulation Implementing 33% Renewable Electricity Standard by 2020

The California Air Resources Board adopted unanimously a regulation establishing a 33% renewable electricity standard. Under the regulation, one-third of the electricity sold in the state in 2020 must come from renewable sources of energy. The new regulation will be one of AB 32’s largest emission-reduction strategies.

ExxonMobil expands participation in MIT Energy Initiative’s low-carbon research; Mobility of Future study

European Council endorses 40% GHG cut by 2030; requests ways to cut transport emissions via efficiency, electrification and renewable fuels

The Council members also requested further examination by the European Commission on instruments and measures for a comprehensive and technology-neutral approach to reduce emissions and increase energy efficiency in transport, for electric transportation and for the use of renewable energy sources in transport after 2020.
