Results from a study by a team from Carnegie Mellon University, Ford and Drexel University suggest that Chinese consumers are more receptive to adopting battery-electric vehicles (BEVs) than their American counterparts, regardless of subsidies. Low-range PHEVs compete most strongly against their gasoline counterparts in both countries.

During fiscal 2012 Mitsubishi Motors will add an EV-based Outlander model which will use a plug-in hybrid system derived from MMC’s already existing EV technology. The new Outlander will be launched first in Russia this summer, after which it will make its debut in European, Japanese, Oceania, Chinese and North American markets.

National Electric Vehicle Sweden (NEVS) has spent more time dealing with financial problems than advancing its plan to build electric cars, primarily for the Chinese market. Since purchasing the remains of Saab in 2012, NEVS has only built a handful of cars, mostly gasoline versions of the Saab 9-3.
