London has introduced its 300 th hybrid bus into its fleet; 1,000 hybrid buses are set to be introduced in the next four years as part of the Mayor of London Boris Johnson’s plans to improve air quality. The 300th hybrid bus is now in service on route 211 between Waterloo and Hammersmith.

This EMICAT brand e-catalyst technology will be used in two of the manufacturer’s 48-volt hybrid van models. The 48 V current for the e-catalyst is obtained via recuperation in the vehicle’s mild hybrid system. In the extremely slow “Traffic for London” cycle, NO x emissions fell by 62%.

The first of a planned fleet of eight hydrogen fuel cell buses in London will start operating on 18 December. The vehicles were specifically designed for Transport for London (TfL) using technology developed by ISE, Wrightbus and Ballard. The buses are joining a fleet which also includes 100 hybrid buses.
