Diesel’s market share in the EU-15 fell from 50.2% This drop was offset by an increase in the sale of gasoline engined vehicles. Automakers are cautioning that this shift to gasoline engines—with their higher CO 2 values—will pose additional challenges to meeting future CO 2 reduction targets.

In France, which liberalized the taxi market in 2015, the number of reported PHV drivers doubled in three years (from more than 15,000 in 2016 to 30,000 in 2019). Since Uber’s arrival in London, its biggest European market, taxi and PHV trips have increased by roughly 25% in the capital. That’s the right thing to do, full stop.

Intelligence survey results, which indicate that more than seven in 10 would be likely or very likely to choose a gasoline car, compared with the four in 10 who would consider buying a diesel.
