This analysis found the following: Commercial Trucks: 76% of the approximately 15 million commercial trucks (Class 3-8) that make up the nation’s fleet run on diesel. Of those, the newest generation of advanced diesel technology models now account for 53% of that fleet. Electric and other categories each register less than 1%.

The City of New York will invest $420 million in electric vehicles, charging infrastructure, and alternative fuels to accelerate the transition to an all-electric municipal vehicle fleet. All light-duty, medium-duty, and non-emergency heavy-duty vehicles will be converted to electric by 2035.

Frito-Lay announced a new electric fleet that will serve the Dallas Fort Worth area, specifically Carrollton. The trucks will deliver locally and reduce Frito-Lay’s annual greenhouse gas (GHG) emissions. Frito-Lay has already achieved 100 percent renewable electricity for all of its U.S.

AJR Trucking , a leading carrier for the United States Postal Service (USPS) and a major drayage carrier operating in the Ports of Los Angeles and Long Beach, has executed a purchase order for 50 Nikola Tre hydrogen fuel cell electric vehicle (FCEV) trucks from Tom’s Truck Centers, a member of the Nikola Corporation sales and service dealer network.

The project is supported by DOE’s Hydrogen and Fuel Cell Technologies Office within the Office of Energy Efficiency and Renewable Energy. The project partners will generate zero-carbon hydrogen onsite via electrolysis with solar and wind power and reformation of renewable natural gas from a Texas landfill.

BMW is testing the use of renewable HVO100 renewable diesel for parts delivery in Germany. In March 2023 the HVO100 test fleet was expanded to include another six trucks, this time belonging to DB Schenker. Electric trucks are already operating at BMW Group Plant Munich.
