The Toyota Corolla Hybrid enters the 2023 model year as a thoroughly upgraded model. The 2023 Corolla Hybrid now offers a choice of five model grades versus just one before. Debuting a more powerful hybrid system and available Electronic On-Demand All-Wheel Drive, the 2023 Corolla Hybrid also gains new safety and multimedia systems, updated styling and new paint colors.

Audi is running a pilot project with automotive supplier Mann+Hummel aimed at using EVs to clean the air around them. Vehicles are equipped with special filters that can collect particulate matter as they drive along, Audi explained in a press release. Particulate matter consists of particles small enough to be inhaled, which can cause health.

The US Department of Energy (DOE) is awarding a combined $2.8 billion to 21 projects to expand domestic manufacturing of batteries for electric vehicles (EVs) and the electrical grid and for materials and components currently imported from other countries. ( Earlier post.) Of that, $1.16 billion will go to 9 projects in the component manufacturing segment of the supply chain.

BMW has taken a step toward localizing battery production for future EVs. The automaker on Wednesday announced a partnership with Envision AESC for a dedicated battery plant in South Carolina. The plant will have 30 gigawatt-hours of annual production capacity and will be powered by powered by 100% net-zero carbon energy, the two companies said in.

Fuel ethanol, a biofuel most commonly mixed with finished motor gasoline, is second only to coal as the most-transported fuel by rail. According to the US Energy Information Administration (EIA) Petroleum Supply Monthly , 95% of all US fuel ethanol deliveries between regions in the first half of 2022 were by rail. The majority of the US capacity to produce fuel ethanol (94%) is in the Midwest; however, most fuel ethanol is consumed in other regions.

After a year of shocking price increases, prices of used cars—including EVs—are slowing starting to decline, according to battery analysis firm Recurrent. Recurrent, which issues battery health reports for used EVs, tracks the prices of certain EVs from model years 2017 to 2019. The average price of those models decreased 2.9% since.
