Rhodium Group estimates US GHG fell 2.1% in 2019, driven by coal decline

Green Car Congress

This decline was due almost entirely to a drop in coal consumption. Coal-fired power generation fell by a record 18% year-on-year to its lowest level since 1975. An increase in natural gas generation offset some of the climate gains from this coal decline, but overall power sector emissions still decreased by almost 10%.

3.8% drop in EU’s greenhouse gas emissions in 2019; transport emissions rise

Green Car Congress

The large decline in emissions, achieved before the COVID-19 crisis, was mainly due to reduced coal use for power generation. Increasing carbon prices and gas becoming relatively cheaper compared with coal led to a significant reduction in coal use, in favor of gas and renewable energy sources. from 2018 to 2019.

Monash team proposes roadmap to renewable ammonia economy; 3 generations of technology

Green Car Congress

While there is global potential to generate renewable energy at costs already competitive with fossil fuels, a means of storing and transporting this energy at a very large scale is a roadblock to large-scale investment, development and deployment. The reaction between N 2 and H 2 requires temperatures in excess of 400 ? Generation 3.

Equinor and RWE to develop hydrogen-fired power plants in Germany, Norway-to-Germany hydrogen pipeline

Green Car Congress

The partners aim to replace coal-fired power plants with hydrogen-ready gas-fired power plants in Germany, and to build production of low carbon and renewable hydrogen in Norway that will be exported through pipeline to Germany. Blue hydrogen in large quantities can make a start, with subsequent conversion into green hydrogen supply.
