Many new vehicles that leave the Audi plants in Germany are delivered with R33 fuel—a blend comprising one-third renewable components. Audi plants’ filling stations transitioned to R33 Blue Diesel ( earlier post ) last year; Audi has now introduced the gasoline counterpart, R33 Blue Gasoline.

The Audi Environmental Foundation is developing filters for urban runoff in conjunction with the Technical University of Berlin (TUB). —Rüdiger Recknagel, Director of the Audi Environmental Foundation. Initial field and lab tests have now demonstrated the efficiency of the system.

Audi has included the economical and efficient use of water as a key aspect of its Mission:Zero environmental program. To this end, Audi is implementing efficient processes and closed water cycles, and increasing the use of rainwater. In the long term, Audi plans to implement closed water cycles at all production locations.

Graforce’s partners include carmaker Audi and Berliner Wasserbetriebe. The technology we’ve developed is capable of cleaning wastewater and producing a low-cost, low-emission fuel from it. German carmaker Audi has also been committed for many years to alternative, synthetic fuels. It requires very expensive cleaning or disposal.

Audi is now the first premium manufacturer to produce automobiles completely free of wastewater. At its site in San José Chiapa, Mexico, the company is using a new water treatment process that collects 100 percent of the wastewater produced there, purifies it and feeds large volumes of clean water back into the plant’s water supply system.

Audi has introduced the latest version of the SQ5 TDI diesel. The SQ5 TDI was first introduced in the fall of 2012 as the first Audi S model powered by a diesel engine.
