Analysts at the International Council on Clean Transportation (ICCT) have reviewed recent research into the greenhouse gas emissions from the manufacturing of lithium-ion batteries for electric vehicles. They note that the the impacts of battery production on electric vehicles’ overall emissions is “an especially complex topic”.

The US Environmental Protection Agency (EPA) has launched the Cleaner Trucks Initiative (CTI) to further decrease NO x emissions from on-highway heavy-duty trucks and engines. The US has made major reductions in NO x emissions, but it’s been nearly 20 years since EPA updated these standards.

The US Environmental Protection Agency (EPA) Administrator Scott Pruitt announced the completion of the Midterm Evaluation (MTE) process for the greenhouse gas (GHG) emissions standards for cars and light trucks for model years 2022-2025, and his final determination that the current standards are not appropriate and should be revised.

Members of the European Parliament (MEPs) struck a deal with the Irish Presidency of the European Council to retain the 95g CO 2 /km by 2020 reduction target for average car emissions. The agreement also provides for “super-credit” weightings for each manufacturer’s cleaner cars (50g threshold) from 2020 to 2023.

The US EPA issued an Advance Notice of Proposed Rulemaking (ANPR) for the Cleaner Trucks Initiative (CTI). The eventual CTI rulemaking will establish new, more stringent emission standards for NO x and other pollutants for highway heavy-duty engines. From 2007 to 2017, US NO x emissions dropped by more than 40%.
