US-based Devon Energy Corporation has received regulatory approval from the Alberta Energy Resources Conservation Board and Alberta Environment and Water to move forward with the company’s third oil sands project in Canada. Like Jackfish 1 & 2, Jackfish 3 represents an estimated 300 million barrels of gross recoverable oil.

Newalta Corporation has signed a contract with Syncrude Canada Ltd. The contract is over a three-year period at Syncrude’s oil sands mine operations near Fort McMurray, Alberta. Newalta expects to commence operations for this contract on 1 June 2012 with revenue averaging approximately $20 million per year over three years.
