Port of Oakland completes shore power infrastructure

The Port of Oakland, California, has completed construction of its shore power (also known as “cold-ironing” infrastructure. Shore Power is a shore-to-ship connection that provides electrical power to the ship, thereby significantly reducing diesel and other air pollutant emissions from ships while they are at berth.

Mitsui O.S.K. Lines pays $253K to CARB for violating at-berth regulations

The rule requires container, passenger and refrigerated cargo ships to reduce emissions while docked at California’s busiest ports, including Los Angeles, Long Beach, Oakland, Hueneme, San Francisco and San Diego. The violations were discovered during routine audits of the company’s 2017 and 2018 vessel fleet visits to the Port of Oakland.

American Honda Motor to pay $1.9M in penalties in California for small engine emissions violations

To resolve the violations, Honda agreed to pay a total settlement of $1,927,800, with $963,900 going to the California Air Pollution Control Fund. Study finds truck fleet clean-up significantly decreases engine emissions near Port of Oakland

Pollutant concentrations were measured at high time resolution in the exhaust plumes of more than a thousand drayage trucks as they drove toward the Port on a major access road.

California ARB fines California port terminal operator $2.5M over air quality violations
