THE EMISSIONS REDUCTION PLAN SUPPORTS WIDESPREAD ADOPTION OF EVs. The Emissions Reduction Plan released today confirms the future of mobility in New Zealand will be electric. Drive Electric welcomes the Emissions Reduction Plan released today by the Government. In April, 39% of all vehicles sold were an EV, PHEV or a hybrid.

Hybrids don’t have to be luxury vehicles. Car buyers shouldn’t be forced to buy high-end bells and whistles when fuel economy and reducing emissions are their top priority. But both models come with forced features that cost nearly as much as their hybrid drivetrains. They should be within the reach of all Americans.

This application alone reduces petroleum usage by some 20,000 pounds per year, reduces CO 2 emissions by 30,000 pounds per year, and represents a sustainable usage for wheat straw, the waste byproduct of wheat. The 2010 Ford Fusion and Mercury Milan Hybrids feature 85% post-industrial yarns and 15 percent solution-dyed yarns.

Since the Clean Car Discount was introduced, EV and hybrids have grown to over a third of new registrations, already saving the country over $100m a year in fuel. The vehicles already registered will save two million tonnes of greenhouse emissions over the lifetime of those vehicles. There’s much more to be done.

The reduction in average CO 2 emissions from cars has been driven partly by improvements in mid-size cars, such as the hybrid versions of the Ford Fusion and Mercury Milan. The introduction of the Ford Transit Connect helped the small commercial vehicles to be the best performing truck segment, down 10.2%.
