Yanmar Power Technology, a subsidiary of Yanmar Holdings, is commercializing a 300 kW maritime hydrogen fuel cell system. The company plans to propose the installation of this system into various ships, including passenger ships, work ships, and cargo ships operating in coastal areas where hydrogen refueling is relatively accessible.

Southwest Research Institute (SwRI) is designing innovative hydrogen combustion systems for gas turbines used in power generation. The designs prevent flashback, a common concern in hydrogen-fueled combustion systems wherein the flame from the combustor travels into the nozzle, which can result in damaged equipment.

Toyota has unveiled a prototype hydrogen fuel cell electric Hilux. The development project has explored how these qualities might be maintained while adopting a new fuel cell electric zero emission powertrain. The new powertrain uses core elements from the Toyota Mirai hydrogen fuel cell electric sedan.

Universal Hydrogen has flown a 40-passenger regional airliner using hydrogen fuel cell propulsion. In this first test flight, one of the airplane’s turbine engines was replaced with Universal Hydrogen’s fuel cell-electric, megawatt-class powertrain. The other remained a conventional engine for safety of flight.

On 23 February, a GR Corolla fueled by liquid hydrogen was given a Super Taikyu test run at Fuji Speedway in Oyama, Shizuoka. It marked the car’s first public appearance and the first time for a manufacturer vehicle running on liquid hydrogen to hit the racetrack. The car ran three sessions on the day.
