ATLIS Motor Vehicles, Inc. and Clemson University have partnered to advance development of electric-vehicle batteries that charge faster, last longer and can be scaled to fit a variety of vehicle classes. ATLIS, a startup company based in Arizona, is developing battery cells and packs to power the Atlis XP Platform and XT pickup truck.

Local Electric Driving, No Range Anxiety. Volvo has been talking about going electric a lot lately. The company plans to do it with a mixture of all-electric vehicles, like the new XC40 Recharge, and plug-in hybrid versions of its SUVs and sedans. The XC90 Recharge is an example of the second group.

You might not know it to look at them, but these two cars—one Swedish, one Chinese—share underpinnings and a parent company. Late last year, Volvo launched its very first all-electric model in North America. It’s called the XC40 Recharge, and the earliest versions aren’t cheap, priced from about $55,000 including delivery.

A new analysis of the real-world usage of more than 100,000 plug-in hybrid electric vehicles shows a large deviation between on-road CO 2 emissions and fuel efficiency and the official vehicle type-approval values. The researchers also took into account data on company cars that had been provided by fleet managers.

Volvo Cars will introduce the production version of the S60L T6 Twin Engine plug-in hybrid sedan at the 2015 Shanghai Motor Show; the plug-in sedan first made its appearance as a concept car at the Beijing auto show in 2014. A hybrid vehicle is powered by at least one electric motor and a gasoline engine, and its system recovers energy through regenerative braking. Sometimes the electric motor does all of the work, other times the combustion engine does, and sometimes both work together. This generally occurs at slower city speeds.
