The 30 Ballard hydrogen fuel cell modules will be integrated into clean energy powerplants built in Seattle, Washington and installed into ultra-class haul trucks to be operated at First Mode’s Proving Grounds in Centralia, Washington. This is the equivalent of approximately 4,000 horsepower.

In just nine months with the hybrid-electric ambulances, the Seattle Fire Department has achieved a 23% increase in miles driven per gallon and a 19% reduction in carbon dioxide emissions. Reducing fleet emissions is a key goal for the city as outlined in Mayor Ed Murray’s Drive Clean Seattle Initiative.

Lithium polymer battery packs from Corvus Energy were recently installed in Europe’s first hybrid tugboat, the RotorTug RT Adriaan of KOTUG, an international maritime service provider headquartered in The Netherlands. This diesel-to-hybrid retrofit represents Europe’s first low emissions hybrid tugboat. Corvus uses Dow Kokam cells.

Under the terms of the agreement, the Level 2, J1772-compliant charging stations will be installed at 12 Best Buy stores in Tucson, Ariz.; and Seattle, Wash. Charging stations at these stores, within pilot markets of The EV Project, will be installed by March 2011. Phoenix, Ariz.; Los Angeles, Calif.; San Diego, Calif.
