12 natural gas Ford Transit Taxis to enter service in Chicago

Taxi Medallion Management in Chicago has purchased 12 Ford Transit Connect Taxis running on compressed natural gas (CNG) for its fleet. The cabs will be affiliated with Yellow Cab Chicago and bear the company’s logo and color. The purchase is part of the company’s goal of reducing emissions by 25%, said Michael Levine, CEO of Taxi Medallion Management. The first taxi was delivered to Boston Cab Dispatch in December 2010.

Smith Electric Vehicles to open manufacturing facility in Chicago

Chicago Mayor Rahm Emanuel and Smith Electric Vehicles announced that Smith will open an electric vehicle manufacturing facility in Chicago. Smith said its decision to locate a facility in Chicago was influenced by the Mayor’s innovative voucher system created to accelerate the conversion from diesel to zero-emission, all-electric commercial vehicles, the large number of fleets interested in vehicle electrification, and the development incentives made available to Smith.

Yellow Cab Chicago Awards Clean Energy 10-Year Contract to Build and Operate Two CNG Fueling Stations

Taxi Affiliation Services (TAS), which operates Yellow Cab Chicago, has awarded Clean Energy Fuels Corp. a new 10-year contract to build and operate two new CNG fueling stations and sell fuel to the company’s growing CNG taxi fleet. Yellow Cab Chicago and its affiliates plan an initial deployment of 100 new CNG taxis. In addition to serving Yellow Cab taxis, the stations will be open 24/7 for public access.

LPG Ford Transit Connect Taxis going into service in Hong Kong

Ford Motor Company has added Hong Kong to the list of global cities served by its Transit Connect Taxi, among them New York City, Chicago, Miami and Los Angeles. The Transit Connect Taxi Ford unveiled in Hong Kong comes equipped with a Ford-engineered, liquefied petroleum gas (LPG) fuel system. The 2014 Ford Transit Connect Taxi comes with a new powertrain—a 2.5-liter four-cylinder engine paired with a new, fuel-efficient six-speed automatic transmission.

United Airlines to Operate Trans-Atlantic Green Corridor Demonstration Flights
