Nucor Corporation, a North American manufacturer of steel and steel products, has made an equity investment in Electra , a Colorado-based start-up developing a process to produce carbon-free iron that can be used to make steel. Electra’s process results in zero carbon dioxide emissions.

The Australian Renewable Energy Agency (ARENA) is awarding Alcoa of Australia $8.8 million) toward testing the potential use of renewable energy in a Mechanical Vapor Recompression (MVR) process for alumina refining. The development project has the potential to reduce carbon emissions in the alumina refining process significantly.

Grön Fuels, LLC’s renewable diesel and jet fuel option facility at the Port of Greater Baton Rouge is based on Topsoe’s proprietary HydroFlex hydrotreating and H2bridge hydrogen technologies, including an option to capture ~1 million tons per year of bio-CO 2 for carbon sequestration in suitable deep saline aquifers located below the project site.

Marathon Petroleum Corporation selected Topsoe as the technology provider for renewable fuels production at the Martinez Renewable Fuels Facility in California. The facility, part of Marathon’s 50/50 joint venture with Neste, utilizes Topsoe’s HydroFlex technology to convert bio-feedstock into renewable diesel.

HF Sinclair selected Topsoe as a technology provider for the production of renewable fuels at three facilities: Sinclair, Wyoming; Cheyenne, Wyoming; and Artesia, New Mexico. All three facilities have now successfully been put into operation and deliver renewable diesel into the United States transportation market.
