New process uses localized surface plasmons for room-temperature conversion of CO2 to CO

Green Car Congress

Researchers at the National Institute of Standards and Technology (NIST) and their colleagues have demonstrated a room-temperature method that could significantly reduce carbon dioxide levels in fossil-fuel power plant exhaust, one of the main sources of carbon emissions in the atmosphere.

EU GRAMOFON project ends after 42 months with promising results on CO2 capture

Green Car Congress

Their use as catalysts in the synthesis of high value-added chemical products such as fuels, alcohols, carbonates and polyurethanes will make it possible to reduce the amount of CO 2 currently generated.

Analysis of drill cores links variations in CO2 40M years ago to changes in global temperatures; questions as to the source of CO2

Green Car Congress

Variations in atmosphere carbon dioxide around 40 million years ago were tightly coupled to changes in global temperature, according to new findings published in the journal Science. Algae use photosynthesis to harvest the energy of the sun, converting carbon dioxide and water into the organic molecules required for growth.

Study suggests that decarbonizing US transport sector by converting waste CO2 to fuels would require economical air-capture of CO2

Green Car Congress

Kreutz presented the paper at the 10 th International Conference on Greenhouse Gas Control Technologies ( GHGT-10 ) earlier this fall in The Netherlands. In the near-term pre-CCS era, with a low cost of carbon, the economical solution for power providers is to vent the CO 2 and pay the fees, passing on the costs to customers.

Researchers propose harvesting CO2 mixing energy to generate electricity

Green Car Congress

Researchers in The Netherlands are proposing a new method for harvesting electricity from CO 2 emissions. In aqueous solutions, CO 2 reacts with water to produce carbonic acid that itself dissociates into protons (H + ) and bicarbonate ( HCO - 3 ), which can further dissociate at high pH to carbonate ions (CO 2- 3 ).

China and India Nullify Global Reduction in CO2 Emissions in 2009

Green Car Congress

Despite the continued economic crisis, global emissions of carbon dioxide, the main greenhouse gas, have remained constant in 2009 as strong increases in CO 2 emissions from fast-growing developing countries such as China and India, have completely nullified CO 2 emission reductions in the industrialized world.
