After four years of development work, the BMW iX5 Hydrogen vehicle and its development project are entering its next phase as the first vehicles enter a pilot fleet of less than 100 vehicles. The BMW iX5 Hydrogen developed on the basis of the current BMW X5 was first unveiled as a concept at the IAA show in 2019.

The BMW Group will begin sourcing aluminum produced using solar electricity with immediate effect. Generating the electricity needed to produce primary aluminum, i.e. aluminum obtained directly from the mineral compound alumina, is alone responsible for about 60% of the global aluminum industry’s greenhouse gas emissions.

The BMW Group is heading up a new project that explores the circular economy in automotive manufacturing. The BMW Group is targeting increasing the proportion of secondary materials in its brands’ new models from around 30% at present to 50%. The BMW Group is supplying 500 end-of-life vehicles for the purposes of the project.

BMW has crossed the “tipping point” as the automaker shifts from gas-powered vehicles to EVs. According to BMW’s CFO, from here on out, most of its growth will come from electric vehicles. After nearly doubling (+74%) EV sales last year with over 375,000 electric models sold , BMW doesn’t see the growth slowing.
