Volvo Cars is significantly cutting CO 2 emissions in its logistics operations by switching transports between its manufacturing plants and new car depots from trucks to trains. On another route, from Ghent to a second depot in Austria, emissions were cut by almost half since switching to rail transports.

The Abfallentsorgungs-Gesellschaft Ruhrgebiet mbH ( AGR ), a waste management company in Herten, North Rhine-Westphalia, Germany, has put a converted DAF CF 340 hydrogen fuel cell truck into operation as part of the EU-funded HECTOR (Hydrogen Waste Collection Vehicles in North West Europe) project.

The move will significantly reduce Audi’s carbon emissions and also save money. Battery modules and cells needed in Belgium for the Audi e-tron and Audi e-tron Sportback were up to now transported by truck over the approximately 1,300-kilometer-long route from the supplier in Hungary. In Hungary and Belgium, Audi uses DBeco neutral.

These vehicles, based entirely on an electric powertrain, will be deployed from 2023 onwards. The framework contract includes an option for a further 130 new VDL Citeas, which in the coming years will contribute to a further reduction in CO 2 emissions. Part of this is that GVB provides completely emission-free bus transport in 2025.
