GSA announced its initial purchase of more than 100 electric vehicles for a vehicle pilot. As manager of Federal fleets and buildings, GSA will also coordinate with these agencies to establish necessary infrastructure for fueling and recharging at Federal building locations receiving the first round of vehicles.

Twenty-three percent of US car owners say that their interest in purchasing a hybrid vehicle has increased from a year ago, according to a new Harris Poll. Other alternative fuels are further down the list, as just one in ten say they would consider diesel (11%) or all electric (9%) automobiles for their next purchase.

Starting next year, the joint “Farm-to-Fleet” venture of the US Departments of Agriculture (USDA) and Navy will make biofuel blends part of regular, operational fuel purchase and use by the military. The Navy will seek to purchase JP-5 and F-76 advanced drop-in biofuels blended from 10 to 50 percent with conventional fuels.

While DoD and the services will have access to the wholesale fuel supplies they require, the purchase price may be uncomfortably high.
