ZeroAvia announced a development collaboration with Alaska Air Group, the parent company of Alaska Airlines, for a hydrogen-electric powertrain capable of flying 76-seat regional aircraft in excess of 500 NM. capable of transporting 76 passengers. ZeroAvia will set up a location in the Seattle area to support this initiative.

As it moves closer to commercialization of its hydrogen-electric technology, ZeroAvia ( earlier post ) has secured a new raise of $35 million to help develop its 2-5MW zero-emission powertrain system for regional aviation. ZeroAvia is on track to achieve commercialization for its hydrogen propulsion technology in 2024.

At higher altitudes, air compressors need to be powerful and efficient, while not adding undue weight to the propulsion system and thus impacting payload and range. Initial testing of the ZeroAvia compressor indicates that it offers highly stable performance across a large range of power and operating environment requirements.

Alaska’s oceans are becoming increasingly acidic, which could damage Alaska’s king crab and salmon fisheries, according to new findings by a University of Alaska Fairbanks scientist. They show that ocean acidification is likely more severe and is happening more rapidly in Alaska than in tropical waters.
