Fraunhofer IFF team designing hydrogen factory of the future

Green Car Congress

Electricity sourced from sun and wind is used to split water into hydrogen and oxygen in a process called electrolysis. It is not possible to build wind and PV plants everywhere. They are employing a special microbial fermentation process similar to biogas production to produce hydrogen directly from organic waste.

Cars That Think

I live in Manitoba , a province of Canada where all but a tiny fraction of electricity is generated from the potential energy of water. Instead, that pure status is now reserved above all for wind and solar. The manufacture of solar panels involves the environmental costs from mining, waste disposal, and carbon emissions.

Heating Buildings With Solar Energy Stored in Sand

Cars That Think

What began as a lighthearted (but serious) student project led to a 3 MWh/100 kW pilot plant in the Finnish city of Tampere, which began operation during the winter of 2020–2021. The hot air then flows back out of the vessel into a heat exchanger, where it heats water that is then circulated through building heating systems.
