Nissan Motor Co., and Waseda University have started testing in Japan of a jointly developed recycling process that efficiently recovers high-purity rare-earth compounds from electrified vehicle motor magnets. In March 2020 the collaboration successfully developed a pyrometallurgy process that does not require motor disassembly.

Mullen Automotive, an emerging EV manufacturer, is acquiring a controlling interest in EV truck maker Bollinger Motors. The purchase price is $148.2 million in cash and stock for a 60% controlling interest, which gives Mullen the majority ownership of Bollinger Motors. —David Michery, CEO and chairman of Mullen Automotive.

In the US, Volkswagen’s updated 2017 e-Golf now carries an an EPA-estimated range of 125 miles—a 50% increase over the previous model year. The 2017 e-Golf goes on sale in the US later this spring, with pricing yet to be announced. The electric motor on the 2017 e-Golf has been upgraded as well.
