Nissan has delivered its first electric taxis to Madrid and Barcelona—the Nissan LEAF to Madrid’s taxi fleet, and the e-NV200 taxi for Barcelona. Nissan has sold more than 142,000 units of the LEAF globally since its introduction in 2010.

Taxi Medallion Management in Chicago has purchased 12 Ford Transit Connect Taxis running on compressed natural gas (CNG) for its fleet. The purchase is part of the company’s goal of reducing emissions by 25%, said Michael Levine, CEO of Taxi Medallion Management. The taxis have a 39-foot turning radius.

Back in 2010, the San Francisco Municipal Transportation Agency was awarded a $7 million regional grant to oversee a fleet of 61 electric taxi cabs, complete with four battery sapping stations. Two years later, neither the taxi cabs, nor the battery swap stations have been launched.

Better Place has received an award from the Japanese government to conduct a pilot project in Tokyo for the world’s first electric taxis with switchable batteries. The project, which follows on the company’s successful battery switch demonstration earlier this year in Yokohama ( earlier post ), is slated to begin in January 2010.

Wisk, a leading Advanced Air Mobility (AAM) company and developer of the first all-electric, self-flying air taxi in the US, has secured $450 million in funding from The Boeing Company, making it one of the most well-funded AAM companies in the world. Wisk began in 2010 as Zee Aero and later merged with Kitty Hawk Corporation.

In California and maximum alternative states, taxis are regulated through towns. Each taxicab within the town is related to a medallion, although other drivers might pressure the similar taxi. Till 2010, taxi medallions have been isolated, awarded through seniority. Greater than 700 folk paid.
