BYD reported that it sold 1,857,379 light-duty New Energy Vehicles in 2022, consisting of 911,140 battery-electric vehicles (49%) and 946,239 plug-in hybrid electric vehicles (51%). Total NEV sales were up 213% year-on-year, with BEV sales up 184% and PHEV sales up 247%.

Audi has announced it will no longer sell Plug-in Hybrid Electric Vehicles (PHEVs) in one of the world’s top markets, China. Now, to refocus, Audi has announced that it will no longer be selling PHEVs in the giant Asian market. According to the executive, Audi’s PHEV sales have more than halved in China since 2020.

Peugeot has continued its steady electrified build-up in Australia confirming the arrival of a plug-in hybrid version of the new 308 small car in 2023. Likely to land in the first half of the year, the PHEV five-door hatchback will follow orthodox 308 petrol-turbo ICE hatch and wagon models that start arriving here in late 2022.

Pike forecasts that PHEV and BEV sales will reach just over 1 million units in five years (1,081,294 vehicles in 2015), with PHEVs accounting for 44% of that amount. PHEVs and BEVs will complement, rather than displacing, the market for conventional hybrid electric vehicles.
