According to data compiled by the US Department of Energy (DOE), the number of battery packs sold for plug-in electric vehicles (PEV) in the US declined by 3.4% from 2014 to 2015. However, the total battery capacity for all PEVs sold between 2014 and 2015 increased by 22.6%. The increasing battery capacities of PEV models have thus supported increased battery production even when sales of PEVS—and thus battery packs—are down.
