Not content with already being one of the fastest four-door sedans money can buy, the Emeya can also pile on electrons at an alarming rate: just 14-minutes to have its massive 102kWh battery topped up from 10-80 per cent. BYD and CATL (Contemporary Amperex Technology Co Ltd) reportedly aim to launch a new electric vehicle (EV) battery with a 6C charge rate. A battery’s C rating measures the current at which it is charged or discharged. Car News China explains that a charge rate informs people how many times a battery can fully charge within an hour. For a 6C charge rate, a battery would theoretically be able to charge six times in an hour.

Mercedes-Benz High-Power Charging North America, a joint venture between Mercedes-Benz Group and MN8 Energy, is moving ahead with its planned $1-billion investment in public EV charging. As part of this investment, Mercedes-Benz HPC announced plans to deploy Alpitronic ’s Hypercharger 400 throughout its network. Manufactured in Wisconsin, the Hypercharger 400 offers charging power levels up to 400 kW, and support for a wide range of output voltages.

Rivian has announced an additional round of layoffs for some salaried roles, after the company let go of a number of workers earlier this year. On Thursday, the electric vehicle (EV) maker said it would be getting rid of a “small number” of salary roles at the company, as reported by Central Illinois Proud.
