Eaton Corporation has supplied key hybrid power technology and expertise to Daimler Trucks’ Mercedes Benz BlueTec Atego Hybrid ( earlier post ), part of the new Mercedes-Benz Atego range of trucks. The Mercedes-Benz Atego BlueTec Hybrid was the first hybrid truck in Europe to gain European Type Approval.

Eaton Corporation announced that customers of its hybrid systems have collectively accumulated more than 100 million miles of service, reducing fuel consumption by 4 million gallons of diesel fuel and harmful emissions by 40,000 metric tons.

Eaton Corp. recently entered into a five-year agreement with Western Michigan University (WMU) to invest in and jointly staff a 1,000-square-foot testing lab to focus on hybrid drive systems for commercial and military vehicles. That hybrid hydraulic drive work also involves collaboration with WMU’s CAViDS.
