Dearman begins on-vehicle testing of Gen 2 transport refrigeration system powered by liquid air engine; lighter, more efficient

Green Car Congress

The system is powered by an innovative, liquid nitrogen Dearman engine, which replaces the standard diesel engine. Air turns to liquid when refrigerated to -196 ˚C, and can be conveniently stored in insulated but unpressurized vessels. This is another important milestone as we develop our revolutionary clean cold and power technology.

ARPA-E awards U-M $1.9M to develop advanced low-cost high-efficiency engine; boosting, highly dilute combustion and 48V system

Green Car Congress

The performance is projected to match that of a naturally aspirated engine and have a 20% increase in fuel efficiency compared to a turbocharged downsized engine, at a cost that is half that of a mild-hybrid system. An engine’s response depends on its ability to take in fresh air and convert it to power.
