IPG to demo Flameless Ceramic Turbine for clean, off-grid power in EV charging

Green Car Congress

IPG secured the £1 million as part of the Highways England (HE) and Innovate UK’s £20-million innovation call to invest in projects that can help improve air quality and operation of England’s roads. Grid access and capacity issues, as well as the infeasibility of on-site solar and wind, is a barrier for EV charging in many locations.

Wind-to-Hydrogen Tech Goes to Sea

Cars That Think

Wind and solar parks produce a large portion of their energy. Then, as now, wind farms are operating off the world’s coasts—but not all of these offshore sites are connected to the mainland via underwater power cables. Some of the wind farms instead sit in clusters more than 100 kilometers out at sea.

BMW Group plants stepping up activities in balancing-power market to contribute to grid stability

Green Car Congress

Together with other highly-flexible controllable systems in the BMW Group production network, they will contribute to the stability of the public grid outside of the plant. Electricity generation from variable renewable electricity sources (VRE) such as wind and solar power has grown rapidly and is expected to continue to do so.

EU Innovation Fund grants €108M to RWE’s waste-to-hydrogen project FUREC

Green Car Congress

As part of the FUREC project, RWE plans to build a pre-treatment plant in Zevenellen, Limburg, to convert non-recyclable municipal solid waste (MSW) into solid recovered fuel pellets. For comparison: This is equivalent to the output of a 700-megawatt offshore wind farm with coupled electrolyzers.

Honda secures auto industry’s largest renewable energy purchase; 60% reduction in CO2 from N.A. manufacturing operations

Green Car Congress

Seeking to slash CO 2 emissions from its North American manufacturing operations, Honda has entered into long-term virtual power purchase agreements (VPPAs) for renewable wind and solar power that will cover more than 60% of the electricity that Honda uses in North America. will deliver to the grid by the end of 2020.

Blue World Technologies launches next-generation methanol fuel cell system for stationary power generation

Green Car Congress

The CellPack Stationary is specially developed for the telecommunication industry, an industry that every year installs hundreds of thousands of smaller gensets to keep people around the world connected. The system can be installed as a hybrid solution combined with renewable energy sources such as solar cells or wind turbines.

Researchers developing DC micro smart grid for charging EV fleets; Li-ion, redox flow batteries and renewables

Green Car Congress

The aim of charge@work is to design a micro smart grid (MSG) capable of supplying the EV fleet with electricity produced exclusively from renewable sources. A 30-meter-tall wind turbine delivers 10 kW. Since it operates on a vertical rather than a horizontal axis, it does not have to be oriented to wind direction. — Dipl.-Ing
