Eight carmakers unite for EV smart grid management

Eight carmaker, 15 utility companies and the US-based Electric Power Research Institute (EPRI) will unite to work together in the development a new standardised smart grid system which should make the management of electric car charging easier.

Together the companies will add a layer of intelligence and convenience to the charging process, allowing EV drivers to access, charge and pay, using an identification card. Additionally, this project will provide utilities with access to energy usage data that can help improve smart grid operations, reduce power strain during peak charging times, and ensure reliable energy distribution to customers.

Tesla and Daimler to launch plug-in electric cars

The companies, working as partners, will bring two plug-in hybrid vehicles to life in the next few years beginning with the Smart EV roadster. In regard to the Smart EV, Musk admitted that Tesla and Daimler have been working on an ‘everyman’ car for more than a year and a half. It is expected that the Smart EV will be on the road by the end of this year.

Electrify America, Hubject collaborate to bring Plug&Charge to more than 2,000 high-power public chargers by year end

Electrify America and Hubject, a recognized leader in electric vehicle (EV) charging interoperability and “Plug&Charge” technology capabilities, announced a strategic agreement that will allow people to pay for their electric vehicle charging simply by plugging in their vehicles. By bringing ISO 15118 to all of Electrify America’s DC fast and home AC chargers, this technology is also the first step to enable EV smart charging and vehicle to grid (V2G) communications.

American and European Standards organizations agree to strengthen transatlantic cooperation on standards for electric vehicles
