Study estimates California’s GHG reductions since 2003 could be wiped out by 2020 wildfires

Green Car Congress

In an open-access report in the journal Environmental Pollution , researchers from UCLA and the University of Chicago estimate that California’s wildfire carbon dioxide equivalent (CO 2 e) emissions from 2020 (~127 mmt CO 2 e ) are approximately two times higher than California’s total greenhouse gas (GHG) emission reductions since 2003.

How Roboticists Can Tackle Climate Change

Cars That Think

However, there’s a shortage of roboticists tackling climate change, due to a lack of awareness of necessary and urgent applications. After talking with many climate robotics founders for my blog, Nirva Labs , here are my findings on how you can find opportunities to help robots make an impact on climate change.

Report: Plastics industry will release more GHGs than coal plants in the US by 2030

Green Car Congress

Plastics are on track to contribute more greenhouse gas emissions than coal plants in the US by 2030, according to new report by Beyond Plastics, a nationwide project based at Bennington College in Vermont. However, what the industry reports is less than half of what it actually releases, according to the analysis by Material Research.

Studies find global COVID-19 lockdowns have significantly reduced PM2.5 and NO2 pollution, but ozone up

Green Car Congress

Levels of two major air pollutants have been reduced significantly since lockdowns began in response to the COVID-19 pandemic, but a secondary pollutant—ground-level ozone—has increased in China, according to new research. Ozone is harmful to humans at ground-level, causing pulmonary and heart disease.

Ice core data show why air pollution is dropping more slowly in US and Western Europe despite lower sulfur emissions

Green Car Congress

We need to understand this multiphase chemistry in the atmosphere to design an efficient strategy to manage air pollution and accurately predict future air pollution and climate change impacts. During most of the 20 th century, sulfur dioxide emissions increased with industrialization in many parts of the world.
