The Pb-acid SLI battery will still continue to be in demand for the many small and cheap ICE vehicles where cost of the battery replacement will always be the deciding factor. There will still be a need for a 12 V battery for the supply of auxiliary power that will not necessarily be a Pb-acid SLI battery.

Energy storage technology is seen as a way to help even out the imbalance in supply and demand by storing excess energy during periods of high production and using it when needed. What we have not done so well is to ensure that we have a solid base level of generation to supply electricity when there is no sun and no wind. This is turn begs the question where does gas come from and what have we done to ensure a safe and reliable supply. Right now, production is low in Russia, so the cost has increased.

With subsidies long in place for nuclear, coal and gas in the US along with the cheap cost of production for coal and natural gas, solar is essentially competing with that $0.10/kWh kWh average cost of electricity in the United States and globally. Unfortunately, for Evergreen and Solyndra, that filing is too late.
