IIASA-led study proposes Underground Gravity Energy Storage as long-term energy storage solution for renewables

Green Car Congress

Renewable energy sources are central to the energy transition toward a more sustainable future. While there are many effective solutions for daily energy storage, the most common being batteries, a cost-effective long-term solution is still lacking. An open-access paper on the work is published in the journal Energies.

BNEF: cost of new renewables rises as inflation starts to bite

Green Car Congress

The cheapest renewable power projects in the first half of 2022 were able to achieve an LCOE of $19/MWh, as in best-in-class onshore wind farms in Brazil, and $21/MWh for tracking PV farms in Chile, and $57/MWh for offshore wind in Denmark. These cost hikes mark a rough patch for renewables, but not an inflection point.
